Overview

Students are expected to work as scheduled for at least one year, no exceptions.

Full-time; hours are Monday-Friday 6:00a-2:30p

Benefits Eligible. Non-exempt. Minimum pay is $19/hour

The Unit Coordinator is responsible for performing secretarial and environmental activities using current technology under the direction and supervision of RN. Assists with admission, greeting, registration, transfer, and discharge of patients. Assist with transporting patients as directed for all discharges.

Responsibilities

Prepares and maintains the patient's medical records.

Perform monitoring of patient charts for required signatures, (general consents, advanced directives, and other related documents), and secures signatures as appropriate.

Operate communication systems including; but not limited to telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube and multi-function devices i.e. fax/printer/ copier/scanner.

Coordinate unit communications and the processes related to secretarial and environmental activities on the unit.

Maintain unit supply of computer down-time forms and implement the down time procedure for the staff. Clean, order and stock clerical, educational and clinical supplies.

Monitor and maintain unit as required by regulatory agencies and document appropriately.

Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.

In emergency situations, initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT and providing all required information confirm with staff call was placed.

Responsible for the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners at their discretion or from tube system to secured medication storage room.

Qualifications

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure:
State Tested Nursing Assistant strongly preferred.

Certifications:
Current CPR (BLS for healthcare provider required).

Skills:
1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
2. Demonstrated basic computer skills.
3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.

Experience:
One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years. Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools.

Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 40lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity.

Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity. Color vision, seeing far/near.
