Position Summary:

Under general supervision performs ECGs, Holter monitors and data management. Must have a knowledge of complex cardiac arrythmias. Is required to possess technical knowledge and clinical expertise to perform electrocardiograms, Holter monitor testing and data management. As the Senior ECG technologist,is responsible for Holter monitor scanning and assisting in the stress lab when needed. Is the superuser for the ECG management system data base, processes and teaching the physicians to read ECGs online.

Salary Range:

Hourly Rate Minimum $28.90 Midpoint $32.44 Maximum $35.97

Responsibilities:

Participates in scanning and assisting in the stress lab

Prepares equipment and supplies for procedures in an organized and timely manner

Accurately performs computer data entry to record test results and patient information

Performs preliminary examinations as directed

Accurately interprets data regarding patient status in consideration of patient age

Effectively determines patient needs based on age-specific criteria

Effectively operates specialized equipment

Conducts and documents patient and family assessments as appropriate

Provides proper protective equipment to patients

Reviews test results with physicians or other care providers in a timely manner

Sets parameters in accordance with established protocols or physician orders

Positions patients as necessary to ensure accurate testing in consideration of patient age

Accurately records procedures to ensure correct billing

Administers medications in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, and in compliance with all policies and regulations

Administers patient treatments or procedures in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, and in compliance with all policies and regulations

Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgment and decision making

Accurately evaluates and documents the patient/family response to care

Accurately follows department guidelines in preparing patients for clinic visits.

Accurately follows department procedures, ensuring equipment is in working condition, and turns off equipment as appropriate.

Maintains appropriate inventory of all departmental supplies and equipment

Prepares instruments, equipment and supplies in an organized and timely manner

Effectively assists as directed with special procedures and/or minor surgeries

Accurately and appropriately performs quality control on equipment ensuring all appropriate records are kept as required

Verifies treatment levels or procedures against established guidelines

Uses appropriate body mechanics when lifting, positioning and transporting patients and/or equipment

Coordinates patient requirements during diagnostic procedures and/or transportation to ensure patient safety

Maintains appropriate aseptic and sterile procedures

Appropriately assesses, controls, orders, and maintains supply inventory according to physician preferences, patient population, and associated patient charges, ensuring accurate record keeping

Accurately pulls non-narcotic medications from the locked cabinet &/or Pyxis and prepares (but does not administer) medications to be used during diagnostic testing.

Participates in professional development

Maintains assigned work area in a clean and organized condition

Effectively performs advanced specialty procedures

Collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team

Accurately collects and records data regarding patient status, completing all documentation in a timely manner

Monitors patients and diagnostic procedures making appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results

Monitors patients, diagnostic procedures, and diagnostic equipment making appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results

Reviews patient care charts on an ongoing basis to ensure weekly treatment managements, changes in patient prescriptions and chart documentation are performed and documented accurately

Collaborates with all members of the health care team to document, assess, intervene, advocate and evaluate patients

Administers medications in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, and in compliance with all policies and regulations

Responsible for stocking and carrying the key to the (non-narcotic) medicine cabinet and refrigerator

Demonstrates safe use and care of equipment

Effectively orients and trains new staff in the use of equipment

Accurately performs ECG's and Holter monitors

Performs routine equipment quality checks and troubleshoots equipment to determine problems and solutions

Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping of supplies and equipment

Consistently performs quality control checks on all equipment as appropriate

Required Qualifications:

Understanding of medical terminology, infectious control techniques and age related acuity levels

Minimum three years of EKG experience in the acute care setting

Experience in recognition of arrhythmia

Knowledge of complex cardiac arrhythmias

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment

Current BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese

Working knowledge of Title 22 and JCAHO standards

Ability to instruct others in the use of equipment and performance of procedures
