Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Civil Designer to join our growing Land Development team in our Tampa, Florida office.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects. Our past and present clients include commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, educational, municipal, state and federal agencies throughout the States of Florida and Georgia.

No detail is too small, and no level of quality is too high for our small but strong performing and experienced team.

Responsibilities

    Work within an integrated team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plan sets and specifications for a multitude of land development project types and sizes
  • Assist in the preparation of land entitlement, site permitting and site construction documents including: utility and drainage reports and exhibits; water, sewer and storm design and layout; construction plan drafting, construction details, and quality control; as well as assistance in preparation of permit packages for reviewing agencies
  • Provide construction administration services including communication with the project design team, contractor, and regulatory agencies; field visits for infrastructure testing observance (on occasion); and project record drawings when construction is substantially complete

Skills and Abilities

  • Skills to implement the integrated services approach
  • Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting
  • Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
  • Knowledge of construction materials and detailing. Detail drawings, sections, and material specifications
  • Experience with green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, Envision)
  • Excellent innovative design skills
  • Project research and analysis
  • Ability to adhere to office standards
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to think critically, but also having imagination

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related degree
  • PE licensure or the desire to obtain licensure in Florida within the next 2-3 years
  • 3+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably in Florida
  • Significant AutoCAD experience, including Civil 3D
  • Experience with Bentley Software Products for Infrastructure Professionals and GIS Systems is desired
  • Experience in developing and compiling/producing site plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports
