Job Description
PURPOSE AND PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sustaining engineer will apply engineering principles and perform research to develop innovative solutions to complex product challenges for aerospace products and systems that will meet our customer’s needs and requirements. Coordinates with Operations personnel, Sales, and Quality to resolve operational issues with engineering solutions maintaining safe, reliable, cost-effective, and producible products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES – Other Duties may be Assigned
    1. Research and apply sound engineering principles to resolve issues encountered in Operations. Develop solutions that meet established performance parameters and cost targets and are designed for manufacture and assembly.
    2. Develop technical sketches or 3D CAD models to communicate design concepts.
    3. Define and prepare detailed engineering documentation.
    4. Plan, manage, coordinate, and prioritize daily work/tasks/projects.
    5. Assume responsibility for executing to established task schedules.
    6. Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established company ISO 9001/AS9100 (QMS) procedures and work instructions.
    7. Support the evaluation and recommendation of solutions to product issues identified internally by Operations or by customers.
    8. Support Operations and Quality in resolving in house production issues and external supplier issues relating to product performance and quality attainment.
    9. Support the identification, design, build, acquisition, and validation of production tooling, templates, assembly tools, and fixtures.
    10. Able to prepare tolerance studies as part of root cause analysis.
    11. Support the Operations team working closely with Manufacturing Engineers to research manufacturing part issues and propose engineering solutions that may result in drawing changes.
    12. Complete other duties as directed by Management.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Must have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.  Alternate degrees will be considered.
  1. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the design/development of mechanical products.
  2. Professional engineering registration (EIT or PE) is a plus.
  3. Mechanism design/development experience is a plus.
  4. Experience with aerospace and industry specifications/standards is a plus.
  5. Experience working with metallic materials, metallic materials fabrication processes, and metallic materials finishing is a plus.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Must have demonstrated professional knowledge of engineering principles.
  2. Problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills are essential.
  3. Must be highly self-motivated, results-oriented, possess the ability to work with little supervision, and be a committed team player.
  4. Must have comprehension and numerical intelligence (analytical), and a demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and with the written form.
  5. Must be detail oriented with solid organizational skills.
  6. Must have advanced computer skills, including experience with MS Office products.
  7. Must have experience with CAD/CAE and PDM packages.  Knowledge of SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM is preferred.
  8. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks, and produce consistent, accurate, and timely work.
  9. Must understand drawing requirements and drafting standards.  Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is a plus
