Job Description

The IT PMO Director plays a crucial role in driving organizational success by ensuring that projects are planned and executed efficiently, delivering value to the organization and its stakeholders. The IT PMO Director is responsible for leading and managing the IT Project Management Office, planning for and maintaining oversight of projects and ensuring the successful delivery of projects across the organization. This role involves strategic planning, project portfolio management, process improvement, and team leadership, and works closely with the IT Leadership team, project managers, and other business stakeholders to align projects with business goals and drive organizational success.

What You'll Do:

  • Ensure effective portfolio planning and reporting, enabling strategic goals to be prioritized while ensuring essential operational changes are delivered.
  • Effective partnership with the corporate PMO & IT leadership to collaborate on strategic initiative planning in support of and change management, focused on maximizing the ROI from the Portfolio aligned to corporate objectives.
  • Ensure business has good expectations and is fully engaged to execute successful projects. Implement effective project pre planning and kick off to ensure that business resources are assigned as needed and familiar with the change methodology.
  • Improve our project results through more effective project management tools, techniques and modern processes; measured by business benefits achieved on time with few issues.
  • Drive an ownership culture in the project management team with a passion to deliver business results in the face of uncertainty, competing priorities and unexpected challenges along the way.
  • Upskill our project managers and ensure a strong bench of talent is available to deliver business change.
  • Utilize data analytics to derive insights for informed decision-making, optimizing program performance and resource allocation.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across IT and our business stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with transformation goals.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Personally support corrective actions when more senior help is required.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers
  • Develop and maintain project management methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance and support to project managers in implementing best practices and process improvements.
  • Drive a sense of urgency and accountability relative to project performance and key milestones
  • Continuously assess and improve project management processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and audits to assess compliance with project management standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on project progress, key performance indicators, and other relevant metrics to senior leadership.

Who You Are:

  • 3+ years in a PMO leadership role. With experience of implementing a new PMO function or delivering a transformation of the IT PMO capability.
  • Excellent problem solver, a leader who can ensure projects are successful.
  • Executive presence, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • People management experience
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools, able to coach and training team members.
  • Experience in process improvement and implementation of project management best practices.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
