Position: Systems Engineer - Level 3
Location: On-site. Fountain Valley, CA.

Position Description:
  • The Systems Engineer Level 3 is a technical specialist one step below an expert and has a deep knowledge in a specific areas of Audio, Communication, Entertainment, Navigation (ACEN) and/or telematics. This position will co-develop, coordinate, and execute policies, methods, and procedures. When assigned as a technical specialist, this position shall perform work requiring a high level of level of ACEN and/or telematics technical knowledge and the ability to integrate at several areas of ACEN and/or telematics.
  • Manage technical projects involving medium scale with medium complexity and analytical tasks.
  • This position shall be distinguished from the Systems Engineer (Level 1 and Level 2), in that the latter performs more specific and small-scale, though complex, analytical tasks and reports.
  • Support the development of ACEN and telematics design and performance specifications, as well as testing and verification of current and future generation of both regular and luxury brand telematics products.
  • Provide some operational oversight of production quality assurance, product improvements, issues management and management of some projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Identify technical conditions occurring at regular and luxury brand dealerships. This includes evaluation of newly delivered vehicles as well as customer owned, or Dealer owned vehicles.
  • Research available data to quantify conditions and information sources including but not limited to field product observation reports, warranty data, Techline Assistance Center (TAC) data and summary reports, monthly top warranty claims from engineering reports, J.D. Power survey data, weekly engineering conference calls with the field technical staff, and bi-weekly conference calls with the TAC staff.
  • Validate and recommend enhancements as needed for new ACEN and telematics technologies and benchmark existing and future technologies as applicable.
  • Prepare written quality information report documents, clearly explaining condition and recommended solutions.
  • Prepare photographs, illustrations, sample parts, or videos as appropriate to enhance communication.
  • Submit reports and support material to quality and service engineering management and safety committee.
  • Prepare Technical Service Bulletin ("TSB") drafts in area of responsibility.
  • Assist in vehicle quality audits with sea port personnel as required.
  • Assist in vehicle ride and drive evaluations as required.
  • Visit dealerships to investigate/resolve product issues.
  • Provide technical support to field staff, TAC, consumer affairs, parts planning and analysis, legal, and warranty departments as required.
  • Drive engineering fleet vehicles to monitor and clearly identify J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Vehicle Dependability Study and Consumer Reports reliability surveys liabilities and develop improvement and validation plans accordingly.
  • Maintain product knowledge and gain customer/field issue complaint understanding.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot and diagnose vehicle installed field failure parts.
  • Develop, evaluate, and validate vehicle failure countermeasures.
  • Support quality assurance program to ensure that telematics and related products meet design, operational and market expectations.
  • Support development, production support, testing, and launch activities for both regular and luxury brand ACEN and telematics products.
  • Identify, document and report functional issues/risks and take escalation actions as necessary.
  • Supporting technical role during joint development and testing events including domestic travel with various employees, engineering and product suppliers.
  • Compile and report system performance and voice of the customer concerns to executive management, while promoting improvements.
  • Ensure defects and systematic issues are accurately defined and scheduled for appropriate resolution.
  • Ensure that both pre-production and post-production countermeasures are implemented to fully support business requirements and launch schedules.
  • Research and analyze existing and new telematics technologies and make recommendations for changes or new features.
  • Create and design test cases/scenarios driven by current customer quality concerns.
  • Provide real-time incident/outage notifications to engineering, manufacturing TAC, consumer affairs, field service engineers, and sea port personnel.
  • Participate in the weekly technical operations and issue management meetings
Essential Duties:
  • Issue quality information reports.
  • Issue TSBs.
  • Issue Dealer Communication System messages.
  • Provide some direction and training support for field service engineers and TAC.
  • Lead activities related to product TSB, recall and service campaigns on ACEN matters.
  • Liaison with quality engineering, manufacturing to best understand the design intent and hardware limitations.
  • Coordinate field investigations as necessary with engineering, manufacturing, field service engineers, systems engineers, and vendors.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and two (2) years of Systems Engineering experience in an automotive, aerospace or defense environment.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of experience with an automotive original equipment manufacturer and apply on the job experiences to solving issues.
  • Previous vehicle telematics, connected car, or machine to machine (M2M) projects experience required.
  • Technical management experience of various projects.
  • Some project management experience from start to completion preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with at least one of the following IT, telecommunications, or vehicle telematics.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with in-vehicle electronics including but not limited to audio, Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, Bluetooth, and Controller Area Network (CAN).
  • Working-level knowledge of wireless technology, IT infrastructures, and the aptitude to advance to expert level.
  • Excellent analytical skills focused on detail, with the ability to recognize trends as they relate to issue management.
  • Ability to correlate those trends to singular or multiple root cause.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work within an international environment and communicate technically complex issues and scenarios to both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Excellent Personal Computer (PC) skills with proficiency with the complete Microsoft Office 365 apps.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, promoting collaboration between stakeholders and vendors alike.
Additional Requirements:
  • Normal office duties.
  • Work requires vehicle evaluations, travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.
  • Requires the possession of a valid state driver's license, good driving record and must be physically capable of driving a vehicle.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Ability to lift light loads (less than 20 lbs).
