Job Description

As our Environmental Advisor, based in Houston, TX, Westminster, CO, or remotely within the Renewables department, you will be instrumental in navigating the complex landscape of environmental permitting and land use entitlement for renewable energy projects across the US and Canada. Your journey with us will span from the initial greenfield due diligence right through to the commencement of construction, embodying a commitment to environmental stewardship and compliance. Each day, you will lead the charge in safeguarding our projects' alignment with environmental regulations and standards, engaging in detailed planning, execution, and monitoring of permitting processes.

Reporting to the Environmental Director, your role is critical in weaving the fabric of our environmental strategy, ensuring that it integrates seamlessly with our broader mission for sustainable energy development. By managing projects schedules, budgets, and consultant partnerships, you will not only influence the success of our renewable projects but also assist in maintaining compliance during their construction and operational phases. Your expertise will also extend to representing ENGIE in regulatory meetings and public forums, advocating for environmental excellence and sustainable practices within the industry.

  • Lead and manage the environmental permitting, entitlement, and compliance requirements for wind, solar and battery storage projects
  • Develop and manage project schedules and budgets as part of the development process
  • Responsible for the entire process of scoping, contracting, and managing consultants for permitting, as well as environmental and regulatory services, ensuring comprehensive management and coordination
  • Oversee the implementation of environmental surveys including, but not limited to: biological and vegetation resources, wetland and stream delineations, cultural resources, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Maintain files of all environmental approvals, environmental documentation sent to regulatory authorities, audit reports, and other key environmental compliance data
  • Assist with the environmental audit program of renewable facilities and provide training on pertinent environmental legislation, rules, and practices to employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and permitting requirements for renewable projects during construction and operational phases
  • Provide support for project origination submittals, power purchase agreements and project sale and acquisition processes and associated due diligence efforts
  • Represent the company in meetings with regulators, and provide subject matter expertise in various public forums, including public hearings, landowner meetings, and industry association events
  • Assist in developing environmental reporting documentation as requested by the headquarters office in Parris, France

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy, or a similar area of concentration
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of renewable energy permitting and compliance experience or similar experience within the energy or environmental industries
  • Experience working with US and Canadian Federal, State/Provincial, and local government laws and policies related to aquatic and terrestrial environments and land use entitlements for renewable energy development
  • Familiarity with the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and the National Environment Policy Act, and strategies for compliance
  • Strong project management skills, with the capability to organize and manage multiple projects, processes, and tasks simultaneously
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior involvement in projects in WECC/CASIO, on federal lands or with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a plus

Additional Details

  • This position is based in Houston, TX or our Westminster, CO offices; eligible for remote opportunities if the candidate resides within 2 hours of a major airport
  • Must be available to travel domestically / internationally up to 20% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE's policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,100 - $147,660 USD annually

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
