ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Receives new and renewal XSWC accounts on a regional basis. Reviews all necessary underwriting information such as, but not limited to, applications, Loss Control inspection reports, annual or 10-K reports, product brochures, loss experience, and claim files to determine the degree of risk involved. Determine the proper Loss Fund or Aggregate Attachment, SIR and Excess WC premium. The evaluation includes traveling to client locations, meeting with risk managers, loss and safety professionals, touring facilities, Loss Trending, analysis of large loss history and state WC benefits, state profile and actuarial information and determining a premium commensurate with the exposure.

Utilize raw claim data via Excel and or Access to analyze year over year development, trends, loss causes, etc.

Educate brokers as to the benefits of our policy forms, coverage, and value added services. Explain in detail where to find existing coverage in our forms and endorsements while highlighting the better terms and conditions offered by Safety National.

Declines risks, which are not acceptable under established underwriting standards, policies and treaties, while always looking to provide a solution to the risks needs.

Stays abreast of all states benefits and administrative nuances of all states.

Provide underwriting and pricing recommendations on accounts, coordinate facultative reinsurance, financial, legal and actuarial support for LXS.

Direct communications to make SNC look professional and demonstrate good internal communication.

Negotiate program structure, coverage, premium, terms, and conditions with brokers within authority.

Deliver updates on all SNC news, financials, products, services, and stewardship reports on the performance of the account.

Deliver all quotes and proposals with details.

Provide brokers with additional information to assist them in selling retention and rate increases to insureds. Including rate and loss history. Meet directly with insureds to sell increases as necessary.

Discusses the risk with and obtains the approval of the VP or SVP of WC Underwriting if necessary or approves risks and amends quotes within the underwriting authority delegated by the SVP of WC Underwriting.

Communicates in a timely and concise manner with agents and brokers to obtain additional information or communicates to meet quotation deadlines or declinations that are timely and professional.

Assists in coordinating of Large Deductible/Large Casualty, Texcess, WC Guaranteed Cost, and Excess WC- Stand Alone quotes when quoting the same account.

Setup, organize and conduct producer, prospective and in-force client and stewardship meetings, acting as the local face of Safety National LXS.

Develop new and maintain broker and insured relationships.

Introduce Business Development partners to contacts.

Organization and on-going maintenance of our marketing material.

Identify and target accounts to develop a pipeline of opportunities.

Identify best Safety National team to meet with broker and client on a case by case basis.

Work with Business Development (BD) to ensure clear communications based on the Service Team concept and supplement Large Deductible, AL/GL unit, Texas Non-Subscriber, LPTs, bond, and assumed reinsurance with cross selling efforts.

When working autonomously, keep Business Development, Underwriting, Claims, Loss Prevention, and support partners apprised of all pertinent material for new and renewal accounts.

Seek assistance where other relationships exist to facilitate writing and retaining business.

Attend regional and national conferences, RIMS, STRIMA (State Risk and Insurance Management Assoc.), CAJAPA (California Joint Authority Powers Assoc.), meetings, and serve on various committees to further display Safety National's commitment to this market segment for all of our product lines. Participates in meetings with insured risk managers, brokers and Safety National senior and executive management

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the strategic planning for the Underwriting Department.

Works with IS and Underwriting Department staff on major programming projects if necessary.

Provides advice and assistance to trainees and less experienced Underwriting Managers and Underwriters to enable them to perform their duties. May supervise or assist in the training of trainees and less experienced Underwriting Managers and Underwriters.

Performs required underwriting documentation and file management utilizing the ImageNow system.

Understands strengths and weaknesses of Claims Service Companies (TPA's). Refers unapproved Claim Service Companies to Claims Department for consideration and assists Claims Department in this approval process as it becomes necessary.

Possess the ability to present clear and timely professional communications -- both internally and externally - via phone, e-mail, written correspondence and face-to-face meetings.

Must be able to work closely with Endorsement Committee and/or Legal Department regarding contracts/agreements, governmental regulation and compliance issues; drafts manuscript endorsement wording as necessary.

Participates in the development of future XSWC procedures.

Participates with BD to identify leads for LXS, Large Deductible/Large Casualty and Excess WC business to improve the flow of new business submissions on an enterprise basis.

Contributes to the education of the agent and broker in the Excess WC, Large Deductible/Large Casualty, LPTs, or Texas Non-Subscriber area.

Evaluates the business of brokers to determine profitability and to promote Safety National penetration in territories assigned. This includes monitoring submission activity, hit ratios and SIC Codes.

Works with counterparts in Claims and BD to inform and be informed of broker, service company (TPA), and territorial characteristics.

Report and advise Home Office IT about all computer, phone and related issues.

Create screen prints and emails to document all issues for IT tracking.

Test and re-test IT solutions.

Performs other duties as may become necessary or at the direction of the VP or SVP of WC Underwriting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 10 years of experience in underwriting large workers' compensation accounts.

Experience underwriting large excess workers' compensation and group/association accounts.

Regional/Local market knowledge of brokers and accounts.

Bachelor's Degree required or sufficient on-the-job experience in underwriting. Prefer degree in business administration with major in insurance, accounting, finance or marketing.

CPCU or other designations are a plus.

Good verbal and written communication required with a strong background in marketing skills.

Must be analytical, organized and efficient.

Must be capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks to meet various deadlines.

Ability to work unsupervised while adhering to company underwriting guidelines.

Must be efficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Willing to spend 40% of time outside the office soliciting new business, building relationships, and maintaining renewal business.

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target salary range for this position is $168,025 to $285,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
