We are seeking a Propulsion Product Specialist (2nd Shift) to join our facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area). This is a Second Shift, Union position.

Essential Functions

Duties include the following:

  • Assemble, repair and test the mechanical, pneumatic and, plumbing, electrical & instrumentation elements of developmental, prototype, experimental and production propulsion products per engineering requirements and performance standards. Common hardware encountered includes pneumatic & hydraulic valves, pressure vessels, injectors, thrust chambers, wiring harness & cable assemblies, circuitry, thermocouples, strain gauges, and welder line assemblies.
  • Using hand tools, precision measuring instruments and power equipment, assemble, repair, rework and modify components to required tolerances by hand fitting, aligning, adjusting, lapping, shimming, tapping, drilling and rearming.
  • Calculate ratios, weights, and measures and mix potting, bonding, adhesives, coating chemicals and compounds.
  • Setup, maintain/ troubleshoot, modify, adapt and operate pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic test equipment to simulate operating conditions and perform tests of propulsion products and components for internal leakage, pressure differentials, load curves, contraction, expansion and flows.
  • Partner with engineering to plan & develop assembly, test and data acquisition processes and practices to support development of experimental and prototype propulsion products assemblies and components.
  • Provide constructive feedback into proposed drawings, specifications, tooling, planning and methods.
  • Interpret information from paper & computerized planning documents, drawings, specifications, and engineering orders to determine sequence of operations and methods required to assemble, disassemble, install, repair, set-up & test hardware within tolerance and per all engineering and quality requirements.
  • Record information manually or with the aid of a computer based system.
  • Partner with engineering to develop test set-up schematics and flow diagrams.
  • Diagnose, locate and correct malfunctions noted during tests, take containment measures, and make adjustments or replacements as required.
  • Obtain and maintain all required skills, environment, health and safety certifications.
  • Lead team Lean manufacturing and process control / process improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to and promote a safe working environment.
Requirements

Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in SPACE manufacturing or 4 years of related assembly and test experience.

Additional fabrication & assembly skills desired:

  • Soldering, lead forming, potting
  • Routing & clamping of cable assemblies & wiring harnesses
  • Installing connectors, connector pins, and electrical sub-components
  • Setting up, performing/operating and/or troubleshooting:
    • Thermal drying chambers and vacuum chambers
    • Mass spectrometer leak test equipment & bubble leak test
    • Electronic and computer systems to record data; install thermocouples and transducers and data acquisition equipment
    • Hydraulic & pneumatic leak, proof, and flow tests using controls, instrumentation and data acquisition
    • Cryogenic testing
    • Single-zone and multi-zone (delta-p) pneumatic pressure proof tests
  • Experience working within FOE - controlled or environmentally controlled clean rooms

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
30.00 - 40.00 per hour
