Summary: Through this paid internship, we will teach and mentor while developing the basic foundational knowledge required to be successful in a production environment. This internship is open to those pursuing a university degree or exploring career options through other means. The approximate duration is 3 months, coordinating with the candidate's schedule.

As an intern within Production, you will work with all levels of Trident Seafoods' team to learn the manufacturing process from start to finish. You will rotate positions within the facility but will be assigned a primary responsibility that aligns your area of study and interest with the company's needs. You will collaborate with production teams on process improvement opportunities and coordinate efforts of Seafood Processors and Skilled Trade technicians. Interns should be self-motivated and know that it is up to them to get the most out of this experience.

You will gain experience in the following departments:

  • Operations

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Quality

  • Safety

  • Fleet Management

  • Scheduling

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports plant operations, plant floor production and supports departments including but not limited to; safety, food safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement, accounting, shipping and receiving, warehouse, human resources, research and development, and maintenance.

  • Gains exposure to appropriate software applications which might include but are not limited to; Microsoft Office, Power BI, Dayforce, InformEAM, and SAP.

  • Assists in the coordination of production activities with management.

  • May assist the Director of Operations in the organization of work crews, dissemination of work, and observance of individual/group performance.

  • Works with Trident team members and analyzes data to understand complex manufacturing processes to improve key metrics.

  • Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

  • Learns Continuous Improvement tools such as Root Cause Analysis, 5S, TPM, Visual Management, and time studies to seek continuous improvement in day-to-day operations.

  • Maintains ongoing contact with seafood processors, operators, mechanics, supervisors, and management.

  • General administrative tasks

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.

  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

  • Must be able to work in both an office and plant environment and comply with all safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of university or general work experience

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fishing industry specific experience preferred

  • A well-rounded skill set including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge or the aptitude for learning new office applications.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
