Job Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior-level Deputy Program Manager to join our Canoga Park, CA office.

This is an opportunity to support the Sentinel (GBSD) Post Boost Propulsion System (PBPS) program as it goes through EMD and into production. This is a high profile program critical to the defense of our nation and our allies. We are looking for a dynamic leader to drive program success. This position will help to lead an evolving development program, interface directly with customers, and ensure effective program execution. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team on a high profile program critical to the defense of our nation and our allies.

Candidate needs to be customer-focused and provide the best, most cost-effective systems or capabilities, within contract bounds, along with being innovative, while striving for optimal solutions. Needs to be able to think or seek better ways to manage those projects and be candid about project status, including risks, along with providing potential solutions.

The candidate must also have the ability to direct a technical effort, making clear the objectives of the project at the same time as providing clear assignments & deliverables for each team member. An ability to gauge the overall effort and re-direct questions towards the team is essential to providing the quick iterations of the project needed for successful completion with all actions resolved.

The ability to estimate and manage cost and schedule performance is imperative for this position and working knowledge of EVMS tools is a plus.

Lastly, the candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate progress and issues to higher-level management, functional discipline leaders (COE's), the program Integrated Product Team leads, and supporting team members.

This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.

Essential Functions

50% - Manage projects, tasks or required activities in support of the program office which will include but not limited to, coordinating and leading technical activities key to the program's success, perform tasks, delegate tasks and make decisions required to close out those assigned activities with appropriate progress to maintain agreed schedule and cost status as needed. Ensure the scope of work is completed within cost and schedule constraints by applying management tools to plan, monitor and implement corrective action as required. Definition and overall management of the program scope is required. Demonstrate to our customers that Aerojet Rocketdyne is the best value supplier for their propulsion needs.

25% Prepare program plans, coordinate cost estimates and manage Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for assigned program(s). Ensure effective variance analysis and corrective actions are in place for all cost account managers and drive execution of the business rhythm.

10% - Lead investigations or technical studies to closure rapidly and rigorously, applying appropriate resources, procedures, and personnel in a cost-effective manner, accumulate, prepare and present the documentation that is required to close an effort, including reports, standard work and/or document as required.

10% - Support development of cost/schedule estimate proposals for key elements of the program.

5% - Travel to customers and suppliers to support program objectives.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of applicable experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Candidate should also have demonstrated successful achievement of technical, cost and schedule goals.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Aerospace or defense development experience with Solid or liquid propulsion experience
  • PMP certification or Project Management certificate
  • Extensive knowledge of project management within the framework of the Project Management Institute including Project Planning, Project Control (Earned Value), Project Execution, Communication, Procurement, and Quality
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Risk and Opportunity Management
  • Demonstrated ability in team building and leadership skills to achieve project objectives
  • Demonstrated trustworthiness in accomplishing agreed upon objectives
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously
  • Ability to independently propose, plan, and then execute a project
  • Proficient in the use of all the basic MS Office tools and therefore be proficient in computer operating systems, MS Outlook, MS Excel (entering formulas, graphing, developing spreadsheets), MS PowerPoint (presentations, storyboard development, logic diagrams), MS Visio (business diagrams and sketches), and MS Word (tables, program plans).
  • Proficiency to also include setting up Integrated Master Schedules using knowledge of MS Project or similar scheduling tool to create extensive project files for large-size projects

Existing SECRET level clearance desired.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
120,500 - 177,166 per year
